We recently welcomed Major General (Retd) Bill Robins and Brigadier (Retd) Ian Cameron-Mowat to the Museum. Both Bill and Ian took part in filmed interviews for the exhibition, ‘The Cold War, in the Shadow of the Bomb,’ recalling stories from their service days in Germany.

“On his passing I attended Roy’s funeral. Just as we were about to enter the crematorium Chapel I noticed a minibus draw up and about 10 to 12 personnel approached the Chapel. I asked them if they knew Roy and they all answered “No” but they were all SAS veterans who had heard about his passing and had come to pay their respects. A very touching tribute to a modest and truly remarkable man.”

The Royal Signals Museum has recently lost one of its most long serving and well-loved volunteers. Lieutenant-Colonel (Retd) Pat Soward passed away last month at the age of 93

At this time of Remembrance, we pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of people of the Armed Forces who have lost their lives in war. From the First World War to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, The Royal Signals Museum holds stories of soldiers who have fought and died in the defence of democratic freedoms.

The Afghanistan display located in the Museum’s temporary exhibition space will be closing on 3rd November 2025. A new Cold War display is set to be installed in the gallery in early 2026 as part of a rotating programme of temporary exhibitions.

Earlier this month, the Museum received a donation of documents and photographs from the Special Communications TA Association via Mr David Smith. David, a retired Major, formed the Association in 2001.
