From the Reserves to the Regulars - Connor's Journey with 43 Signal Squadron

Connor joined the Army Reserve straight after university, looking for a challenge beyond his civilian career and more time outdoors. Eighteen months on with 43 Signal Squadron, that curiosity has become a genuine passion and next year he's taking the next step by joining the Regular Army.

The R SIGNALS has given him new skills, confidence on specialist equipment, and a team whose camaraderie and professionalism have inspired him throughout his service. Following recent events within the Regiment and Squadron, Connor wanted to give something back; thanking those who shaped his journey while supporting the Royal Signals Charity. So, as a parting gift before transferring to the Regulars, he's running the Chepstow Half Marathon on 15th August 2026.

Running is nothing new for Connor. A keen runner for six years, he completed his first full marathon in 2025 and helped set up a local running club with friends. For him it's about far more than fitness; it helps him manage stress, explore new places, and keep challenging himself. He rounds out his training with bodyweight calisthenics, joking that it stops him "turning into a string bean."

Outside the Reserves, Connor works as a Mechanical Engineer on the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, recently returning from a supplier visit to Lille where he also watched England's World Cup campaign come to an end.

As Connor prepares to swap his reservist boots for full-time service, every bit of support helps him say thank you to the Squadron that's given him so much.
