On Thursday 2 July, 16 Signal Regiment hosted its Summer BBQ, bringing together serving members of the Regiment with the 60s 16ers - veterans who served in the Regiment during the 1960s, along with their partners. It was a day of good food, familiar faces, and stories spanning generations of service.
Old Friends, Shared History
For many, the highlight was simply reconnecting. Serving personnel and veterans swapped stories across the decades, with the 60s 16ers sharing memories from a very different era of the Regiment's history. It's these moments, linking today's Regiment with those who built its legacy, that make events like this so special.
Raising Money for a Cause Close to Home
Alongside the reunion, the day featured a charity raffle in support of the Royal Signals Charity. Thanks to the generosity of local and national companies who donated prizes, and everyone who got involved on the day, the raffle raised an incredible £663.80.
The Regiment chose to support the Royal Signals Charity because of the vital work it does for serving personnel, veterans, and their families across the Corps. After a day built around celebrating community and shared history, it felt only right to give something back to a charity that does so much to look after that same community.
Thank You
It was a brilliant day - full of good company, shared memories, and plenty of laughs. A huge thank you to everyone who came along, to the 60s 16ers for making the trip, and to every company and individual whose generosity helped make the raffle such a success.
Could Your Unit Do the Same?
Events like this show just how much can be achieved when a community comes together, not only in raising money, but in strengthening the bonds between serving personnel and the veterans who came before them. If your unit is planning a reunion, sports day, or social event, consider adding a small raffle or collection in support of the Royal Signals Charity. As 16 Signal Regiment has shown, even modest contributions add up to make a real difference for the wider Royal Signals family.
