Rowland “Rowley” Shears (G8KW) is best remembered for his pioneering contributions to radio communications, particularly through the KW Electronics brand. But during the Second World War, his life took a dramatic and little-known turn when he was posted to Egypt with the Royal Corps of Signals and recruited into British Intelligence.
Working under the legendary Colonel Dudley Clarke in Cairo, Rowley became part of a daring deception operation that saw him infiltrate enemy circles posing as a German agent. His mission was so convincing that he was awarded the Iron Cross!
Written by his son, Richard Shears - who also followed a career in communications and now carries on his father's legacy with the G8KW call-sign - this book draws from Rowley’s own handwritten wartime stories.
