Fritha has worked in the museum and heritage sector for over 20 years and brings a wealth of experience to the role.
Located within Blandford Camp in Dorset, the Royal Signals Museum traces the complex history of the Royal Corps of Signals - from its origins in the Royal Engineers to the present age of sophisticated digital warfare. Visitors can drive an armoured vehicle across a virtual landscape, and set up a satellite networks, as well as practice their Morse Code.
Commenting on her appointment, Fritha said:
“The Royal Signals Museum is one of a kind, providing visitors with an engaging story of the Royal Signals Corps and the evolution of military communications. The Museum holds an extraordinary collection that speaks to innovation, service and teamwork. I look forward to working with the team to build on its strengths and broaden its reach, both with the local community and wider afield.”
Fritha has previously worked in senior roles at the National Trust, the National Trust for Scotland and the American Museum & Gardens in Bath. In these roles she demonstrated her strengths in ensuring financial viability, visitor engagement and collections management. Her innovative Christmas lights event at the American Museum & Gardens represented a significant step change for the organisation and attracted an incredible 20,000 visitors.
At National Trust for Scotland, she introduced a contemporary art gallery at Pollok House in Glasgow. She was also instrumental in the development of the RIBA award winning ‘box’ concept at the Hill House in Helensburgh. This involved the introduction of an innovative temporary structure over the building which would protect the building and allow it to dry out for its conservation purposes, and also provide much needed visitor facilities.
Her consultancy projects include the development of a Masterplan for the Imperial War Museum and Council of Europe on post-conflict work to regenerate Balkan countries. Fritha added:
“This is an incredibly exciting time to be joining the Museum. A new storytelling strategy has been introduced which captures the Corps' contemporary history as it unfolds."
This innovative project provides visitors and online viewers with an immersive experience which brings alive the stories of the Royal Corps of Signals, via the free Bloomberg Connects platform.
