On 22 November 2021, 228 (Armoured) Signal Squadron climbed Kiwi Hill to the equivalent of the 5 highest peaks in New Zealand. Originally, we set out to collectively climb Kiwi Hill 319 times, which, with the 45-metre elevation of the hill would take us to the required elevation. However, I quickly realised that the original target was approaching much quicker than expected. By 1000hrs, 1 hour after we started we had reached the target. We then decided to push the challenge further and increase the target to 579 reps which took us to the equivalent height of Mounts Everest, K2 and Kangchenjunga, the 3 highest peaks in the world. Thankfully the squadron rose to the challenge and we succeeded at the new target elevation.
The event was well received and tied in well with our connection to New Zealand. The event was organised and run to raise money for The Royal Signals Charity with a target of £300 to aim for. Thanks to the generosity of the regiment and wider we are currently at £365 with a few days to go before the donations are handed over to the corps charity.
