A message of thanks…..

I loved my life in the armed forces and still miss it to this day. From basic training at Guildford to trade training at Catterick. As a Data Telegraphist I was posted to Germany. I met some amazing people along the way and every moment was an experience I will never forget (along with my regimental number!) It is a different life and there is no experience like it.

Unfortunately, returning to civvy street can be difficult. You truly never know what can be ahead of you. Even with your years in the service which you feel can prepare you for anything, there are times when the unexpected can leave you feeling lost and struggling.

I found myself in this situation recently. I was let down by multiple organisations and authorities purporting to safeguard armed forces veterans.

The property I was forced to reside in caused my health to severely deteriorate due to excessive and widespread damp, water ingress and mould.

I had no quality of life and was eventually left with no funds to pay for relocation.  The only obstacle that stood between my becoming homeless was for me to remain silent and stop raising the issues whilst I had to endure failing health with repeated accidents resulting in fractures and burns due to the hazardous, inaccessible property.

I eventually relocated to my new home in January 2025. However, this would not have been possible without the support I received.

The help from the Royal Signals Charity has been invaluable; the financial support which paid for removals and replacement of necessities has literally been life-changing. I cannot thank you enough as there are simply no words to express the appreciation I feel, specifically to every person who donates to the Royal Signals Charity. Without your kindness I know that I would not have been able to cope with another winter enduring inhuman conditions.

I am now living in a warm, dry home, surrounded by my remaining belongings which I have not had access to since 2022 as they had to remain boxed and stacked high off the floor away from the water leaks and mould.

Where I am now living I have met other veterans who have helped me to no longer feel lonely. I feel very much like I did during my armed forces days, as if I am part of a new family.

Thank you so much.
