Shooting – Operational

Royal Signals Operational Shooting sees soldiers from the Corps participate in the top Operational Shooting Competitions in the Army as well as representing the Army on overseas international competitions.

Every year the Royal Signals, in conjunction with the Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers, Adjutant General’s Corps, Royal Logistics Corps, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and Intelligence Corps, amalgamate their operational shooting competitions under the sponsorship of 6 Division.  This combined competition is regarded as the largest shooting competition of its kind in the world with more than 1000 competitors.  This is a qualifying competition for the Army 100 and the Corps consistently has the top team across all eight cap badges who enter Regimental sides; put simply The Royal Corps of Signals dominates Operational Shooting in the Army.

Over recent years approximately one third of the top firers in the Army have been Royal Signals soldiers. In 2015 Sgt Khagendra a Royal Signals soldier was latest to become the top shot in the Army. As a result he received the much coveted Queens Medal which is a recognised medal which is worn with other operational medals.
