The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists’ 25th Anniversary
The long and fruitful association between the Royal Signals and the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT) has been reported on before but the 4th May allowed the Corps Family to participate in celebrating the 25th anniversary of the formation of the 100th Livery Company of the City of London. With nearly 800 diners this was a truly prestigious occasion and the guests included the Right Honourable The Lord Mayor Alderman Dr Andrew Parmley MusM Hon FGS and Major General John Crackett CB TD, ACDS (Reserves and Cadets). Colonel Simon Hutchinson MBE ADC was the principal representative for the Corps although there were other members of the Corps, serving and retired, distributed amongst the diners in the splendid Guildhall.

In his after-dinner speech the Master of the Worshipful Company, Christopher Histed, paid tribute to the strong relationship that has been established between the Royal Signals and WCIT. The WCIT sponsors an Apprentice of the Year medal, a Yeoman of Signals Course prize, the Employment Panel (to date assisting over 500 former R SIGNALS personnel into a second career) and the Journeyman Scheme. This last initiative extends an opportunity for selected R SIGNALS personnel to embark upon a mentored process to join the WCIT as ‘freemen’, guided by civilian IT professionals. These mentors willingly volunteer their time to assist personnel to develop their career profile and skills in a readily-understood format by their civilian counterparts.
