We still call it our Christmas Dinner even though it is still November but the feedback tells us it was a memorable evening. It was held once again at the Holiday Inn, Peterborough and this year over 50 members and guests attended. The hotel had laid the room out to perfection under the instructions of Margaret and Geoff Gardiner. There were six tables, one of which was large enough for 13 seated. The layout was such that, where we could, a committee member was present on each table. The Branch Standard was displayed by our Standard Bearer Michael Court.
The President, John Hill, gave his usual address welcoming in particular those non members who joined us. Among them were a number of ex RAF colleagues, our newest members Jane Crowe and Mal Turfrey, and our youngest guest 17 year old Harry Collins whose future lies in joining the Royal Marines. Harry would later in the evening become Mr Vice. After the formal welcome, the President then rolled off a number of one liners which has become his forte.
The meal was excellent. After the first course we were entertained for 30 minutes by “ Juke Box Legends” a duo who have performed for us in the past and gave an exquisite rendering of a number of Golden Oldies. After the dessert, Juke Box legends again performed for us. The entertainment was excellent and very well received. During the coffee and mince pies interval, Harry Collins gave the Royal toast, a toast to our Colonel in Chief (Princess Anne) and a toast to the ladies. The ubiquitous raffle was once again orchestrated by our treasurer John Walsh assisted by Dave Stapleton.
As usual John Hill had put together a pictorial Quiz which was won by a table which consisted mainly of our RAF friends and family. The evening concluded with the opportunity for members and guests to mingle.
All in all an excellent evening and thanks to the organising committee for their input !
