RSA Rotherham Branch
We hold regular monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at:
146th Workshop REME
Reserve Army Centre
We meet in the ORs Mess at 2000 hrs. The meeting lasts between 20 minutes and one hour depending on the amount and type of business under discussion.
From humble beginnings with just 12 members the Rotherham Branch currently has 67 members, of which 54 are ex-signallers and 13 are associate members. The branch constitution limits associate membership to a maximum 20 per cent of the total membership. The branch is always seeking to recruit new members, ex-signallers welcome.
Join your local RSAMembership of The RSA is open to any person – Regular, TA/Reserve, National Service, ATS, WRAC – who served with the Corps.
The Rotherham Branch was the brainchild of a number of members of the Sheffield Branch who live close to Rotherham and were aware that a number of ex members of the Corps would join the Association or were already life members but for various reasons could not make the journey to Sheffield. After much discussion and a first refusal from HQ in Blandford, the Branch was started following an inaugural meeting on the 13th July 1999.
We were greatly helped by stalwarts such as Des Stuart, Moss Green (our branch President), Keith Bates (our Secretary/Treasurer) and Mick Hickey. They visited the local TA Centre and through the good offices of the Commanding Officer Captain A W Fairlamb (15/19 The Kings Royal Hussars) received permission to hold our monthly meetings their.
It should be noted that the members who started the Rotherham Branch are also members of the Sheffield Branch, and a number of Sheffield Branch members have joined the Rotherham branch.
